How to find your IP address on the local network.

For Windows 95/98/ME   machines.

Go to the Start Menu and up to Run

when the window comes up, type "Command"

Click OK

You will the get the DOS prompt appear

Type "winipcfg":

Press either the Enter key, or the Return key.

The IP Configuration appears, usually as the PPP adapter:

Do NOT change anything here. Instead, click on the arrow to the right of "PPP Adaptor" and go down to the ethernet adapter, in my case a 3Com 3C90x Ethernet Adaptor:

The IP address is the third one down, 192.168.100.224. Clicking the More Information button gives you further information. If you have obtained the address via DHCP or BootP, you can first release the address, then renew the address to check your network really is working (unless your address starts with 169, which means the network isn't working, and it hasn't found a valid DHCP/BootP server)
